Photo Writing Assignment

This photograph was taken from the late Alexander McQueen's Plato's Atlantis Spring/Summer 2010 collection (this ensemble in particular is the "Jellyfish") one of his last collections before passing away in February 2010. This collection was show cased at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City shortly after, in 2011. The reason I selected this photograph is not necessarily the McQueen pieces themselves, which are amazing, but the fact that among the ranks of many sculptures and priceless paintings at the Met, this wardrobe collection is considered and presented as a work of art. McQueen was widely known for being a MAJOR risk taker, with the materials he used and how he presented his collections on the runway.
I became interested in high fashion at a very young age, but I only thought of runway collections as pretty. Although I was mesmerized by it, I did not began to really value the art and creativity behind fashion until I grew a little older. I believe designers are artists in their own right, their canvas just happens to be the human body. It is art that moves, and is brought to life by admirers who can actually get to wear it.
